Shipping services to Kiribati
If you want to send something to Kiribati, you will need to ship either via ocean cargo freight liners or via air mail. It being an island, they have no way to receive any road freight trucks or transports of any kind. You can, and should, get a tracking number with your shipment so you know when it arrives there. You can also get a delivery confirmation that will report back to you when your shipment is finally delivered. Both the tracking number and the delivery confirmation will be an additional charge, but it should be nominal.
Security concerns when shipping to Kiribati
Kiribati, or otherwise known as Christmas Island, has some security concerns that stem from some piracy acts that have happened around the island in the Pacific Ocean as well as right by this country. Their government does have in place some fairly stringent procedures for how to deal with this type of criminal activity, but that has not stopped the outbursts altogether. For instance, they have a ship rider agreement in place that permits a Kiribati law enforcement agent to board and inspect the contents and the personnel of a vessel before it is allowed to dock at port there. This is felt to have deterred some of the potential pirate attacks but that may be just speculation as that is hard to quantify.
Shipping destinations in Kiribati
All air mail shipments will be flown into Aeon Field in the South East portion of the island, as this is the only functioning airport on the island. After your shipment is unloaded, it will be processed through Customs and released for final delivery, which can be anywhere on the island. Check with your shipping company to see if they will deliver your items for you or if you will need your recipient to go collect them from a main location in a city center.
