Customs in Mongolia

Mongolia does not have a very strict Customs system in place at this time.  That being said, they still will want to have you attach an inventory of your shipment when you send something there and they may inspect it to make sure it is not hazardous material.  And they do still have a list of prohibited items which you should check for changes before shipping.  This list includes swatches, play money, fish and crustaceans, collectible coins or stamps, any dangerous goods (as defined by the International Air Transport Association), and any sort of checks.

Maersk Freight, MSC, Evergreen, and ZIM are ocean cargo freight companies that handle the majority of the ocean shipments to China, and then to Mongolia.  USA Inter Cargo and CAM also ship there, as do Russell Freight, FedEx and Send My Bag.  Seeing as there are so many choice for shipping to Mongolia, it is important to evaluate not only the shipping companies price point, but their transit times and past track records shipping there as well so you make an educated decision. 

Shipping destinations in Mongolia

Even though Mongolia is land locked, you can still ship your goods via ocean carrier to a port in China and them have them delivered the rest of the way via road freight trucks.  The closest and biggest ports of China that tend to receive shipments for Mongolia are Tianjin and Qingdao.  The ocean cargo freight companies will help you when choosing this route and explain the route they will take with your shipment.  In Mongolia, any of the major cities, like Ulaanbaatar, will be serviced for deliveries, but seeing how there is a lot of national parks and sparsely populated land in Mongolia, many people will have to travel to cities to pick up their items.
